Joalah
Four years old, light paint mare.
Joalah is a beautiful paint mare, a chestnut splash overo with long legs and a slender, thoroughbred-like build. Her face is petite however, with a slight dish and the faintest signs of a Jibbah. Both her mane and tail are snowy-white, though yellowy dirt often seeps through the latter, causing her tail to get a normal yellow tinge. A long, thin stripe runs down Joalah’s face, evenly splitting the sides, and her eyes are a sparkly blue. She is lithe, but still muscular, a long back and legs, deep and chest and barrel, and long but arched neck, plainly built for speed and stamina at about sixteen hands. Her large eyes portray lots of emotion, and her thick mane and tail flow over her hocks and crest. She is pretty, no doubt, but not exceptional. Her best feature is her personality.

Joalah is a mare as sparkly as her eyes. She has lots of energy, and uses it in the way she knows best – socializing. She is rarely seen alone, and saves her woes and depression for her family, or even better, those rare times when she’s completely alone. She can talk to just about any horse, sometimes replying with wit, sometimes honestly, and occasionally sarcasm. She hates to se the bad in other horses, and constantly encourages them not to, either. She’s selfless, too, trying her hardest to never have anything about herself, and she is surprisingly flippant when in danger or pain. She has made a few feeble stabs at romance, but nothing lasting – she hasn’t found someone she truly loves yet. She has had a fair few admirers, and she find sit hard to resist them, because she hates to hurt any other equine, but she manages fairly sufficiently. Joalah is friendly and one of the easiest creatures to be around, and has never truly hated anyone. Her constant energy is a surprise for anyone, and she seems to get high off life – the only repercussions being she goes slightly silly, giggling and everything and making stupid comments.

Joalah was born into a band of travelers. Her sire was surprisingly short – barely knocking fourteen hands – so it was amazing he managed to hold his own in a large herd with many large mares. He did this generally in the most primitive way, nipping and squealing, but it certainly got the job done. Joalah’s dam was held quite dearly in her sires’ heart, though she had no gained the lead position – she was too soft hearted to fight for it, as the stallion encouraged. Her foal, therefore, was treated quite nicely by both her dam and sire, her knock-kneed clumsiness dealt with gently, instead of the normal lunging and pinning of ears. This made Joalah quite sure she was a little more special than the others. She was definitely not conceited – it never had, nor will be in her nature, but she began to get ambitious beyond her years. She had only a loose concept of the realm of romantic love, but planned to fall in love with a colt, and the two of them could travel away together, building a land without the strictness of her sire and order of her large harem.
She grew older, though, nearly two, when it became apparent she was better-looking than most. This made colts in neighboring harems prick their ears, and many were suddenly squabbling to have her. Joalah didn’t like this one bit – she lay her ears back quite endearingly and complained, though none listened. If but one colt had stopped and said something kind to her, she was have been sold instantly. However, she was simply overwhelmed, and returned, terrified, to her parents. Her sire saw what a state she was in (he didn’t realize it was merely her fantasies gone wrong) and went after the colts with shocking vehemence. Predictably, one of the colts overcame the short, stocky stallion and found themselves the surprised leader of a large herd. That herd went to bits, as the immature colt spent too much time fooling around with the fillies to show any form of leadership. Mares dispersed, perishing, getting fed up, or just finding other stallions to go with. These stallions didn’t need to fight to get mares – the coltish leader hardly noticed they were gone.
However, a big, handsome Friesian stallion came, and predictably took Joalah and her dam away, which the colt noticed. He tried to stop the brute taking Joalah, the pretty pinto filly with a nice nature, but she refused to leave her dam. The colt, frustrated, lashed out at her, and the black brute attacked him quite brutally. It shocked Joalah, but her dam was impressed, and they left with the brute quite easily.
It became apparent, though, that the black loved Joalah’s dam far more than her sire had, and he was jealously protective of her. He accepted, even loved Joalah, but his heart was with her dam. This entranced Joalah, however, and when she set off on her lonesome in the world, she was determined to find someone so jealously in love with her, that she could love back just as strongly. Obviously, being only four, her optimism hasn’t waned, and she is certain to find him, soon.
[something different must be said.]
